Weigh-ins and your weight goal
Your weight feeds Gauge's goal math, so keeping it current keeps your targets honest.
Logging a weigh-in
Go to Settings → Health Profile → Log Weight. Enter the number in your units (pounds or kilograms) and save. Your Current Weight row updates immediately and the new number flows into your target calculations.
Syncing with your health app
- iPhone: with Apple Health sync on, weigh-ins from a smart scale or other apps flow into Gauge automatically — and weigh-ins you log in Gauge are written back to Apple Health, so everything stays in one place.
- Android: with Health Connect sync on, weigh-ins flow into Gauge (read-only — Gauge doesn't write back on Android).
Either way, Gauge always uses your most recent weight from any source.
Weigh-ins do double duty now: beyond keeping your baseline current, your weight trend is half the evidence Gauge uses to learn your real maintenance from your results. A few weigh-ins a week is enough — without them, that learning politely waits.
Reading the trend, not the reading
A single weigh-in is mostly noise. Salt, sleep, how much is still in you from yesterday — day-to-day swings of a kilo or two say nothing about fat. What matters is the direction across weeks.
Open This week from the date at the top of Home to see your weigh-ins across the last fortnight, with the latest reading and the change over that window. Read the shape rather than the last dot. Gauge does the same: it works from the trend, which is exactly why it wants a few readings a week instead of one perfect one.
Controlling your pace
If Gauge calculates your targets for you, the Weight Goal setting controls how aggressively you lose, as a share of bodyweight per week. It's set from the goal weight and target date you gave during setup — ask for a pace faster than Gauge will run and it says so at the time, rather than letting you find out by missing the date. You can change it whenever you like:
- Gentle — about 0.3% per week
- Standard — about 0.5% per week
- Max — about 0.7% per week
Gauge holds you to this — it never runs a deeper deficit than the pace you picked, even on rest days. During an event training block, the same tiers apply via the block's "weight during the block" setting, and the deficit pauses entirely during your taper.
If you're on My own numbers mode, there's no pace to set — your targets are exactly the numbers you entered.
